Join us for a West African dance class for women and children who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), in partnership with Charlottesville dance troupe Chihamba. In this fun and energetic hour, we will enjoy movement and rhythm, build community, and connect with our African ancestry as we explore the meanings and stories behind each dance. Led by Lillie Williams. Class runs every Tuesday at the McGuffey Art Center (on the 2nd floor), from 6:30PM- 7:30PM. Registration is required.

Chihamba Women’s Health Brunch

Dr. Taylor joined the University of Virginia in 2022. She is the inaugural associate cancer center director for diversity, equity, and inclusion and a faculty member in the school of medicine. Dr. Marquita Taylor is an economic and health disparities researcher. With an emphasis on observational research in the clinical setting, her research focuses on cancer-related outcomes and experiences of Black women. Additionally, she is trained as an epidemiologist, having attended Morehouse School of Medicine and receiving training in Race and Equity from UPenn. As a research scientist, she has consulted on research teams nationwide, most recently for a lab at the UMass Chan School of Medicine and Columbia University. Dr. Taylor has served in several inaugural executive leadership roles, including as the assistant director of Health Equity and Leadership at the Yale School of Public Health/Yale School of Medicine, working directly with the Yale Cancer Center. Prior to this role, she was the inaugural director of inclusion at the Center for Public Service and Social Justice at Yale. In addition, Dr. Taylor has also served in a significant capacity as a health equity consultant for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), most recently for the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, and as a consultant for the state of Rhode Island.
